Paul Sormani (1817 -1877) was based at 10 rue Charlot from 1867. The business continued after Sormani's death in 1887 under the direction of his widow and son until 1934. Many of the pieces made by the firm were directly influenced by earlier 18th century models. Their work was especially recognised for its exceptional quality and was widely exhibited during the second half of the century.

This handsome pair of cabinets reflects the enduring appeal of classical cabinet-making traditions revived throughout the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The bold geometric veneers - arranged in quartered panels forming diamond motifs - demonstrate a confident command of figured Kingwood, selected for its rich colour and dramatic grain.

As a pair, the cabinets offer symmetry and versatility; equally effective flanking a fireplace, anchoring a formal interior, or serving as statement storage within a contemporary setting. Their strong geometry and refined materials ensure both presence and adaptability within a wide range of decorative schemes.
