A similar pair of candlesticks - marked CC - designed and manufactured by Christofle et Cie. are described by Blairman & Sons as 'néo-gothique…based on a presumably twelfth-century pair in the Cathedral treasury at Trier.’
Paul Shutler has identified the base of these candlesticks in the revivalist designs of Eugène Viollet-le-Duc (1814 - 1879).
